چکیده

neurons (two in green, one in red) stained in the same preparation by intracellular iontophoresis of Alexa fluor and imaged with confocal microscopy. Each projection neuron sends 8 –12 radial dendrites that each terminate in one of about 1,000 glomeruli. All the glomeruli sampled by each projection neuron are coplanar and the 1,000 glomeruli together fill an approximately spherical volume. Each glomerulus is approximately 35 m in diametglomerulus diameter. Stain by Sarah Farivar. Fusion of microglia with pyramidal neurons after retroviral infection.

The neurogenic potential of the postnatal neocortex has not been tested previously with a combination of both retroviral and bromodeoxyuridine (BrdU) labeling. Here we report that injections of enhanced green fluorescent protein (eGFP) retrovirus into 134 postnatal rats resulted in GFP labeling of 642 pyramidal neurons in neocortex. GFP-labeled neocortical pyramidal neurons, however, unlike GFP...

P 67: The Role of Neuroinflammation in Dysfunction of Adult Hippocampal Neurogenesis

Neuroinflammation as a protective mechanism for repairing tissue damage in the central nervous system (CNS), has been classified into two types: acute and chronic. It is characterized by the activation of microglia and astrocytes and the increase levels of different chemokines and cytokines. Neuroinflammation can be harmful, and it is a common pathological feature in neurodegenerative and psych...

P 115: Potential Therapeutic Targets Related to Neuroinflammation in Treatment and Prevention of Autism

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a mental condition, present from early childhood, characterized by great difficulty in communicating and forming relationships with others and using language. In the last four decades many studies have shown that immune responses in different regions of brain play an important role in ASD pathogenicity. A conservative estimate based on the research suggests tha...

The role of cell death during neocortical neurogenesis and synaptogenesis: implications from a computational model for the rat and mouse.

We are quantitatively evaluating the acquisition of neocortical neurons through key stages of development including neurogenesis, migration, and synaptogenesis. Here we expand upon a previous computational model describing neocortical neurogenesis in the rat and mouse [Dev. Neurosci. 24 (2002) 467], to include the period of synaptogenesis (P0-P14) when programmed cell death (PCD) is known to pl...

Microglia modulate wiring of the embryonic forebrain.

Dysfunction of microglia, the tissue macrophages of the brain, has been associated with the etiology of several neuropsychiatric disorders. Consistently, microglia have been shown to regulate neurogenesis and synaptic maturation at perinatal and postnatal stages. However, microglia invade the brain during mid-embryogenesis and thus could play an earlier prenatal role. Here, we show that embryon...
